Attendance Policy


Parents/guardians are responsible for the faithful attendance of their children at school. The school calendar for the year is available each summer on the school’s website to help you plan vacations so as not to disrupt your child’s education. The calendar consists of 180 required school days.

Absence from school jeopardizes the ability of a pupil to satisfactorily complete the prescribed course of study and violates the statutes “ requiring children to regularly attend school . (N.J.S.A. 18a:38;25-25)” The School Board of Education and staff of ASRCS cannot succeed in the paramount task of providing an education for students unless they are present for scheduled classroom learning activities.

The ASRC board and staff recognize that consistent attendance in the classroom is an integral and essential part of a student’s total learning process for the following reasons:

  1. The teacher explains, interprets, and adds to the information given in the classroom each day.
  2. Certain classroom activities such as discussions, laboratory experiences, films, the use of technology, invited speakers, and group projects add to the class content.
  3. The student has a responsibility to participate in the class learning process and to contribute to the learning environment on the basis of his/her questions, comments, and insights.


When a student is absent, please call the school before 9:30 a.m. (597-3800). Parents/Guardians will be called at home/work/cell if we have had no communication concerning the absence. By following this process you can be assured that your child has arrived safely at school.

A note stating a reason for absence is also required when the child returns to school. A “Reason for Absence Form” is available on the ASRCS website. If a child is absent for 3 or more consecutive days a doctor’s note is required to return to school. Frequent absence from school requires a doctor’s note stating the cause of the absence .

The following are legitimate reasons for absence: illness, death in the family, court appearances in compliance with a subpoena, or quarantine of the home.


If it becomes NECESSARY for a child to be absent from school for reasons other than illness, the parent must explain the absence in writing two weeks prior to the first day of the absence for the principal’s approval. Missed assignments are to be completed within two weeks after the absence.


Students who are absent during the regular school day MAY NOT PARTICIPATE in school sponsored after school activities on the day of their absence.


The school day starts at 8:45 a.m. Students should arrive at school no later than 8:40 a.m. so that they will be in the classroom ready to work by 8:45 a.m. If a child arrives late, after 8:40 a.m., the parent must sign in the child at the front office . The child then proceeds to the classroom. It is very difficult for a child to enter the class when the school day has begun. Please do everything you can to avoid this disruption of your child’s day and that of his/her classmates.


We strongly encourage the parents of our students to schedule medical, dental, or other appointments after school hours. Picking your child up early is strongly discouraged . Your child misses valuable class time and is a disruption to the entire class. The school day ends at 3:15 p.m. If it becomes necessary to arrive late or leave early for important appointments , the student must bring a note signed by the parent/guardian to alert staff early in the day of the departure and the student is to be signed out at the front office prior to 2:30 p.m. After 2:30 p.m. students are to be met at the car line at 3:15 p.m. (Only in extreme emergencies will a student be permitted to be signed out after 2:30 p.m.)

*Students being signed out for All Saints sponsored activities such as soccer, handbells etc. are exempt. Students will be released at the time needed and it will not be counted as an early release.

No student will be permitted to leave school early unless met at the office by a parent or a person designated in writing by the parent. In an emergency, parents are to call the school to verify such authorization. When leaving, please sign your child out at the front office.

Please review the school calendar which can be found on the school’s website. There are a number of early dismissals, no school days, and holidays available in each cycle that will enable you to schedule important appointments outside of the regular school hours.
